Solo exhibition, Apoteka - Space for Contemporary Art, Vodnjan, 2025
In the end we all become people with fins, with water coming out of our ears, listening and thinking;God, these people have no clue,
Renata Poljak’s exhibition is specially designed for the intimate space of Apoteka and fully adapted to its unique setting. The installation unfolds in three parts and begins with a poster: the front side features the text “On paper, everything can exist—even invisible cities. In language, we build the invisible, for which I use all my poems.” The reverse side shows swallows in flight, created with collage and painting, symbolically extending the exhibition into space and time. Take the poster, gift it, or leave it to continue its unpredictable journey. The space then reveals dystopian textual vignettes about the future of the sea and humanity, culminating in the video projection Songs for Our Sea, following twelve-year-old Vanja Cetinić – Koća as he studies marine plankton and protects biodiversity. Poljak weaves documentary footage, music, and poetry into a poetic and socially engaged whole, reflecting on our relationship with the sea and imagining new futures.
